Landscaping services in Mystic, CT

One landscaping crew, from the first stake to the tenth spring.

American Ground & Snow does landscaping services in Mystic, CT and across southeastern Connecticut: patios, walls, walkways, plantings, new lawns, grading, drainage and clearing. Our yard is on Gold Star Highway in Old Mystic, so most of the properties we build are a short drive from where our trucks park every night.

Most landscaping problems start before anything is built. Water has nowhere to go, the grade pitches toward the house, ledge sits six inches under the lawn. We look at the ground first and design around it, then the same crew that built it can keep it up afterwards. You are not chasing a hardscaper, a planting company and a mowing service that never talk to each other.

What we build and fix

Landscaping services, grouped the way the work actually happens.

Pick the piece you need, or have us walk the whole property and tell you what order makes sense.

Build

Outdoor Living

Patios, walls, fire pits and lighting planned as one space, in the order that keeps you from tearing up last year’s work.

Outdoor Living →

Paver Patios

A real base under every paver, pitched away from the house, so the patio is still flat after a few Connecticut winters.

Paver Patios →

Retaining Walls

Walls that hold a slope or create a level yard, with drainage behind them so frost and water do not push them over.

Retaining Walls →

Walkways & Steps

Paver, flagstone and stone steps from the driveway to the door and out to the yard, set so they do not heave.

Walkways & Steps →

Fire Pits

Built-in fire pits and seating areas sized for how many people you actually have over.

Fire Pits →

Landscape Lighting

Path, step and accent lighting so the yard you paid for is usable after dark.

Landscape Lighting →
Grow

Landscape Plantings

Shrubs, perennials and grasses chosen for your light, your soil, the salt air and the deer behind your house.

Landscape Plantings →

Lawn Installation

Sod, seed and hydroseed on properly graded topsoil, for new construction, a torn-up yard or a lawn expansion.

Lawn Installation →

Bush & Bed Program

Monthly bed care after the planting is in: weeding, trimming and edging so it looks the way it did on day one.

Bush & Bed Program →
Fix the ground

Regrading

Reshape the yard so water runs away from the foundation and the lawn stops holding puddles.

Regrading →

Drainage Solutions

French drains, dry wells and swales for wet yards and basements that take on water after every storm.

Drainage Solutions →

Land & Brush Clearing

Overgrown lots, brush lines and woods edges cut back so you can see, and use, the property you own.

What landscaping in southeastern CT has to handle.

Ledge and glacial stone

Inland, from Old Mystic up through Ledyard, Gales Ferry and North Stonington, the glacier left rock everywhere. We plan footings, walls and plantings around ledge instead of finding it with the excavator on day two.

Shoreline sand and salt

Closer to the water in Mystic, Stonington, Groton and Waterford, soil drains fast and salt spray burns the wrong plants. Bases get compacted harder and plant lists change.

Water with nowhere to go

Clay pockets, downspouts dumping at the foundation, and yards graded the wrong way. Fixing drainage before a patio goes in is cheaper than fixing it after.

Frost heave

Connecticut winters lift anything built on a thin base. Every patio, walkway and wall gets a base deep enough to stay put.

Deer

If deer can reach it, they will test it. We plant what they leave alone, or tell you up front what will need protection.

Shade under old trees

Big oaks and maples are part of why people love these towns. They also mean real shade, so lawns and beds get planned for the light you actually have.

How it works

Walk it with us. Decide after.

Walk the property

We come out, look at the grade, the water and the light, and you point at what you want changed. The site walk and quote are free.

Written plan

You get a written scope and quote, in the order the work should happen, so nothing gets built twice.

One crew builds it

The same local crew handles grading, drainage, hardscape and planting. No subcontractor hand-offs.

We keep it up

Mowing, cleanups and the Bush & Bed program keep the new landscape looking like the day we finished.

Fall is the best time to plan spring builds. Quotes and designs done now mean you are on the schedule before the spring rush instead of behind it.

Questions

Straight answers about landscaping in Mystic, CT.

Do you design the landscape, or just install it?

Both. We walk the property, sketch the layout with you and put it in writing before anything is dug. If you already have a plan from a designer, we can build from it.

Should drainage be fixed before a patio or planting goes in?

Yes, almost always. Water problems get harder and more expensive once there is a patio on top of them. We check grade and drainage on every site walk and tell you if it needs work first.

Can you work around ledge and big trees?

That is most of southeastern Connecticut. We plan around ledge, roots and slopes instead of pretending they are not there, and we tell you up front where they change the plan.

Do you take care of the landscape after it is built?

Yes. Weekly mowing, spring and fall cleanups and the monthly Bush & Bed program keep it looking finished. One company built it, so one company knows how to keep it.

Which towns do you do landscaping in?

Mystic, Groton, Stonington, Ledyard, Gales Ferry, North Stonington, Pawcatuck, Waterford, New London, East Lyme, Norwich and Montville, plus nearby towns. Our yard is on Gold Star Highway in Old Mystic.

What does landscaping cost?

It depends on the ground more than the plan: base depth, drainage, access and ledge change the number. The site walk and written quote are free, so you see the real number for your property before you decide anything.
