One crew is the point
These five steps hand off to each other constantly, and splitting them between companies is where the finger pointing starts. The crew that graded it is the crew that seeds it, so nobody gets to blame the previous trade.
Water is a town matter near wetlands
Clearing and drainage both run into the municipal Inland Wetlands Commission, and the regulated area reaches past the wet ground itself. If your site is close we say so before anything starts rather than after.
The season is finite
Machines rut saturated spring ground, and seed needs the fall window or the spring one. A project quoted in winter for the following season is normal. Clearing is the exception, since frozen ground carries equipment better than anything.
Most jobs are two steps, not five
The full chain is the worst case. Far more common is drainage and a lawn, or clearing and a regrade. The walkthrough exists to find the shortest version that actually solves it.

Plenty of these conversations end with a smaller job than the one people rang up about. Do I have to do all five?
No, and almost nobody does. Two or three is typical. The chain matters for knowing what has to come first, not for padding the job out.
Can I just get the lawn done?
If the ground underneath is sound, yes, and we will say so. If it holds water or is compacted hard, seeding it is money you will spend again next year, and we would rather tell you that first.
How long does a full project take?
Anything from a couple of days for a small piece to a few weeks for clearing, drainage, grading and a new lawn. Weather has a real say, since machines rut wet ground and seed needs its window.
Do I need permits?
Sometimes, and it depends on your town rather than on us. Work near wetlands goes through the municipal commission, and the regulated area extends past the wet ground. We flag it on the walk.
